Muong Thanh outdoor restaurant is located in at the entrance zone of Muong Thanh eco-resort in the Dien Chau district, Nghe An province. Dien Chau district is an abundantly green area that lies 60 km north from Vinh city.
The eco-tourism resort next to a water reservoir has an estimated area of 500 ha that includes restaurants, cafes , hotels, villas. This is then combined with attractions such as farms, parks, safari and outdoor sports. In addition to providing services for relaxation, the resort also aims to share knowledge about the natural environment and animals that are being bred.
The arc-shaped restaurant is built to the edge of the entrance lake which is the first landmark of the resort. The restaurant also has two pools of water behind the space to create an atmosphere of the building floating on water. As water vaporizes from the pools of water, it naturally cools the surroundings which is essential as it is one of the hottest lake areas in Vietnam.
The naturally cross ventilated restaurant's main space has an area of 1100m2that can accommodate up to 300 people. The structure is designed entirely with bamboo; the 26 hyperboloid columns that are 2m to 5.5m in diameter and 4.5m in height supports the roof structure. Some of these columns accommodate living trees within them, and others serve as private dining spaces. Each column has a hollow cylindrical structure using straight bamboo poles that are rotated in 2 directions creating a twisted grid surface that is woven together. Within these hollow columns grows trees that flourish upwards out of the traditional thatched roof.
The negative space between the columns form pleasant sitting spaces within the bamboo and trees. All the bamboo used in the structure has been treated naturally. After the bamboo treatment process which includes smoking and soaking to prevent termites, the bamboo will have a sufficient bearing capacity and high durability that makes it the perfect material for construction. Guests will enjoy a tranquil experience viewing the juxtaposition between the solely bamboo structure and the surrounding landscape.
